Overview

Lake Bogoria is a shallow saline water lake located 25 km south of Lake Baringo and 285 km's from Nairobi.
Lake Bogoria National Reserve is the home of Africa's most magnificent antelope, the greater kudu, and of other savannah wildlife. Animals include Zebra, impala, Grant's gazelle, Klipspringer, buffalo, dik dik and Patas monkey, among others.
Predators include the leopard, cheetah, hyena, mongoose, jackal, and Karakul cat. Lake Bogoria National Reserve has 135 species of birds.
This is in addition to more than 310 residents and 50 migratory species of birds - 374 bird species have been recorded. In the recent past, it has become the most stable home of the lesser flamingo with a population approaching wo million birds.
The Lake Nakuru National Park - renowned as a bird sanctuary with over 400 bird species, including huge flocks of flamingoes and many other water birds.
Lake Nakuru is home to many animals such as hippo, waterbuck, warthog, impala, buffalo, Rothschild giraffe, elands, and both the endangered black and white rhino.
The Masai Mara Game Reserve - Kenya's most famous and finest game sanctuary.
In the months of June and July each year, the wildebeests in their troops arrive at the Kenyan border, ready to cross the steep banks of the broad and fast-flowing Mara River.
This crossing is truly the greatest episode of the entire migration. Hot on their heels are the predators of the savannah - lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena, and vultures.

Day 1: Nairobi - Drive to Lake Bogoria Game Reserve

After breakfast, depart by road to the Great Rift Valley, with Mt Longonot in the background. Stopping periodically to marvel at the plunging escarpments, volcanic mountains, and pristine lakes.
You will also see Lake Naivasha, Lake Elementaita, and Lake Nakuru as you journey to Bogoria. Lake Bogoria is located within Lake Bogoria National Reserve at a distance of about 285 km from Nairobi.

Day 2: Drive to Lake Bogoria Game Reserve

This morning you will wake to watch the sunrise over the escarpment before embarking on a guided game walk along the steaming shores of Lake Bogoria.
Teeming with birdlife, you will have the opportunity here to observe kingfishers, herons, and pelicans, in addition, to seemingly millions of greater and lesser flamingos.
While the shores will undoubtedly captivate your attention, be sure to look to the surrounding plains and woodlands as well; lesser kudu, gazelles, zebra, and warthogs are often seen meandering around the forest edge.
The western shore has hot springs and spouting geyser’s, spurting steam and bubbling geothermal pools.
Local populations also believe that exposure to the geyser's vapors acts as a treatment for respiratory and dermatological problems - however, caution should be exercised if attempting this. The steam is very hot.

Day 3: Lake Bogoria Game Reserve - Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, drive for three hours through the majestic Rift Valley, moving on to Lake Nakuru National Park.
This Park too revolves around a spectacular alkaline lake, painted pink and white by thousands of flamingos, pelicans, and over 300 other species of birds, while enormous herds of buffalo graze on the shore.
There are rehabilitated and ever-graceful black and white rhinoceros, which have successfully repopulated this park.
Besides the flamingos that Lake Nakuru is famous for, there are approximately 400 other species of birds found there.
In addition, a large variety of games can be found in the park including the introduced Rothschild's Giraffe, Waterbuck, Reedbuck, Lion, Buffalo, Leopard, Baboon, and many species of plains game.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park - Drive to Maji Moto Springs (Loita Hills)

This morning, depart from the Great Rift Valley and towards the rolling plains of the Masai Mara.
Before traversing these plains, you will detour to Maji Moto, an authentic Masai settlement on the outskirts of the Mara.
The Masai Warriors are a semi-nomadic indigenous African tribe, world-renowned for their unique dress, intricate jewelry, and their ability to jump to remarkable heights.
They have roamed the plains of the Mara and the Serengeti for centuries, surviving off instinct and fierce loyalty to their cattle. Tonight, you can unwind from a long drive in the natural hot springs beside the village.

Day 5: Maji Moto Springs (Loita Hills) - Drive to Masai Mara Game Reserve

This morning will be spent with the Masai, learning of their customs, beliefs, and skills.
Enjoy setting off on foot with a warrior, learning the survival skills that have enabled this population to prosper through adversity.
You may learn how to throw a spear, mix a deadly poison, and identify medicinal plants; you will gain insight into a truly unique - and threatened - way of life.
Also explore the boma (homestead), learning about the role of women and children in this patriarchal society.
Practicing beadwork, milking cows, and retrieving water illustrate a life that sits in contrast to the world you left behind.
The Masai incorporate song and dance into all major components of their culture, with particular performances associated with courtship, hunting, and the coming-of-age ceremonies.
In the afternoon depart for Masai Mara one of the greatest wildernesses of the world.

Day 6: Discover Masai Mara Game Reserve

Enjoy morning and afternoon 'Spice' game drives are planned. Large mammals are varied, abundant, and easy to see. Residents among the park's mammals are; Masai Giraffe, Buffalo, Impala, Zebra, Topi, both the Thomson's and Grant's Gazelles.
Optional hot Air Balloon rides are available on this day at an additional cost. On this final day in the Mara, you also have an opportunity to visit an authentic Masai village.

Day 7: Masai Mara Game Reserve - Drive to Nairobi

Begin today with an early morning 'Spice' game drive followed by a complete English breakfast at your lodge. Mid-morning drive to Nairobi.
The balance of the day is at leisure for last minute assisted shopping and sightseeing.
